Poppy is my name and being happy all the time is my game!! Oh, how I love to play with tennis balls and run around with one in my mouth most of the time! I'm always so exicted when the humans here come around me so if you're looking for a 'laid back dog' I'm not the guy for you. I get pretty excited during car rides as well. I'm sure with time and training I'll learn to settle down a bit.  I'm such a smart boy!! My foster mom was looking at me the other day and said I needed to go on a diet. I've gained a few pounds! Diets are such a pain!!!

I was found running down the freeway by my foster mom with a very long rope in tow. No doubt I was tied up in the yard and most likely 24/7. Lucky for me my foster mom came along when she did because I kept running in the road and an 18-wheeler almost hit me. Oh, I shudder to think of that horrible day!!! I'm safe now and hoping for my very own forever home!

Not much is known about me since I was a stray. My foster mom isn't sure how I would be around small children since none live in my foster home, but my foster mom can't help to think I would be wonderful around children.

I am light heartworm positive and being treated for those nasty worms. I should be cleared of them in about six months. I'm being treated by what is called the 'soft method' which means even after treatment and after I'm adopted I still would need to be checked for heartworms in six months just to be sure I'm free of heartworms. After I finish the thirty day heartworm treatment I'll get a monthly heartworm proventive.

I have had a few potty accidents, but have been good about going on the puppy pads my foster mom puts down for me. I might need a little work in the potty training area, but I'm smart and so willing to learn.

I get along with all the dogs here and enjoy playing with them. I haven't been around cats so it's unknown how I would be with them. Looking forward

Love Poppy!!!!

Please contact  app@aarfhouston.org for more information about this dog.
You can apply online by clicking on Application . Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet and greet at one of our adoption events. Thank you for considering a rescue!

The adoption fee includes vaccinations, Bordetella, de-worming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. There is a an additional $12.99 fee for Home Again for a lifetime registration of the microchip.

Puppies cannot be adopted outside of the Houston area until they are spay/neutered after they are 4 months old.

It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it.

NOTE: In our bios, we provide information based on our volunteer's experience with a particular dog; such as temperament, training, and ability to get along with others.

AARF is a 501(c)3 Non Profit, all breed, no kill organization. Our group is always in need of donations in order to continue to give the needed medical care to our rescues. Adoption fees do not begin to cover all of the medical costs. Any donation , no matter how small is a big help and is greatly appreciated. Please help us to continue to help them. Thank you.
