Lucas is his name.   Ironically - his tags were found by the feeders at Melrose Park sometime the week prior to actually finding Lucas.   They checked the tags and knew they belonged to a black lab - but the dog was not to be found.   Also, the owner's number has been disconnected.

Then, Lucas the Black Lab was found - with his precious foot caught  in a clamp trap set by a 7th Dave Adventist Church in Houston, Texas next to Melrose Park!   Pulled from Melrose Park with a Trap on his tender foot.  Rushed to the vet for examination.  Trauma to his foot.  Thank God that nothing was broken.  But the foot is swollen and sore.

Dr. Jeffrey was suprised to find that Lucas' foot was not broken.   It was bruised and swollen and Lucas will need some pain meds and anti inflamatories for awhile.    Dr. Jeffrey also found that Lucas has a bad knee and Heavy Heart Worm Positive.   He will under go the ugly Quick Kill Heart worm treatment.

Lucas will be treated for his foot and knee and be on antibiotics for a month before Heart Worm Treatment is possible.

This boy was so very lucky.   Melrose Park, Houston Tx., is no where for an animal to be - but yet - the Angels at Melrose who watch over the park and feed every day find more and more being dumped every single day.

Lucas is lucky - many are not.

He is traumatized by being kept inside a home.   Poor guy has never experienced the warmth and comfort of being inside and he can not understand what is going on.  Lucas is making progress, but still has a long, long way to go.  He will need a lot of love and understainding - but you can see by the pictures,  he is eager to please!

More about Lucas 1

Good with Dogs

The adoption fee includes vaccinations, Bordetella, de-worming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. There is a an additional $12.99 fee for Home Again for a lifetime registration of the microchip.

Puppies cannot be adopted outside of the Houston area until they are spay/neutered after they are 4 months old.

It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it.

NOTE: In our bios, we provide information based on our volunteer's experience with a particular dog; such as temperament, training, and ability to get along with others.

AARF is a 501(c)3 Non Profit, all breed, no kill organization. Our group is always in need of donations in order to continue to give the needed medical care to our rescues. Adoption fees do not begin to cover all of the medical costs. Any donation , no matter how small is a big help and is greatly appreciated. Please help us to continue to help them. Thank you.
